Why a tint changes what a designer sees
Any colored lens changes what light reaches the eye, and the eye’s color response depends on the full spectrum arriving at it. A tint absorbs light unevenly across that spectrum, and the deeper and broader the tint, the more visible the shift toward whatever color the tint carries. This is a real, physical effect, not a placebo concern, and it is exactly why a designer matching a brand color or checking a print proof would worry about wearing tinted eyewear at the desk. Not every lens marketed for blue light exposure carries the same tint. Our own catalog spans a light range: a clear, near-clear day lens on one end, and yellow, orange, and red lenses built for evening, pre-sleep, and late-night use on the other. Because the filtering is concentrated at the edge rather than spread evenly across the visible spectrum, overall visible (photopic) light transmission comes out to 91.6% — near-clear, with no heavy tint. UVA and UVB are both filtered above 99.99%, which sits outside the visible band entirely and has no bearing on color.
The same lab report also records a transmittance-and-chromaticity pass under ANSI Z80.3, all samples in the clear lens group, category 0 cosmetic lens. That standard governs how a lens transmits light and holds color — it does not test or certify the accuracy of any reading power ground into the lens, and neither claim should be read as the other.
What the research says about blue-light lenses and color
Independent research on blue-light-filtering lenses generally, not specific to our product, is a useful check on the marketing category as a whole. A 2026 review in Therapeutic Advances in Ophthalmology (Khorrami-Nejad, Naroo, Oklla, Narooie-Noori) found that blue-light-filtering spectacle lenses showed minimal or no significant difference from standard lenses on contrast sensitivity, color discrimination, or task performance, and noted that efficacy for symptom-related outcomes remains debated in the literature. Separately, a 2017 study in PLOS ONE (Leung, Li & Kee) measured that commercially available blue-light-filtering lenses reduced the calculated blue-light hazard by roughly 10-24% versus clear lenses, without characterizing color-vision effects specifically. Taken together, this points the same direction our own lab data does: a light, edge-weighted filter is not the kind of intervention that meaningfully disrupts color perception, but claims should stay modest rather than absolute — the evidence base here is narrow, not exhaustive.Which lens fits a designer’s day, and which to skip

Even a lens with 91.6% visible-light transmission and a passing chromaticity test is an uncontrolled variable sitting between your eyes and a calibrated, D65-standard display or a proof under controlled lighting. The honest answer for that specific moment is to take the glasses off, not to reach for a ‘more accurate’ pair. Where a clear day lens does earn its place is the rest of the workday: the hours of screen time around that final check, where a light, edge-weighted filter has not been shown to meaningfully disrupt color perception and may help with general screen comfort.
