What do PROSPEK’s lens test results actually show?

How the lens testing was done
PROSPEK’s clear and yellow evening lenses were measured by COLTS Laboratories under report O-SPG111015. COLTS holds ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation (A2LA certificate 1612.01), the standard that governs competence for calibration and testing laboratories, and the spectral transmittance measurements were taken per ANSI Z80.3, the US standard for non-prescription sunglass and fashion-eyewear transmittance. Three samples were measured per lens group. The orange and red lenses were measured separately, in 2026, by our lens manufacturer’s optical laboratory rather than by COLTS. We report the two data sets separately below because they come from different labs and different band widths, and because it matters that a reader can tell exactly which measurement backs which number.Clear lens: transmission by wavelength
The clear lens is PROSPEK’s everyday, non-tinted option, and its numbers come from the COLTS report. Filtering is heaviest at the shortest, highest-energy wavelengths and tapers further into the visible blue band, which is ordinary optical physics rather than something unique to this lens.
Visible (photopic) transmission is 91.6%, which is why the lens looks close to clear rather than tinted. UVA and UVB are both filtered at greater than 99.99%.
Yellow evening lens
The yellow evening lens, also measured in the COLTS report, trades some visible-light transmission for a stronger cut of blue light. It filters 98% of the 400-500 nm band overall, 99.9% of high-energy visible (HEV) light, and 98.3% specifically at 460-480 nm, the band most discussed in circadian and melatonin research. Visible-light transmission is about 65%, noticeably more tinted than the clear lens. The COLTS report itself uses different color terminology for this lens than our product name does. We describe it by the color a wearer actually sees on the lens, which is yellow.Orange and red lenses
The orange lens filters 99.96% of light across the 380-500 nm range, and the red lens filters 99.83% across that same range, both measured in 2026 by our lens manufacturer’s optical laboratory. Those numbers are strong within that band, but the band itself is narrower than the full ANSI Z80.3 sweep used for the clear and yellow lenses, and this data set does not carry the same third-party accreditation as the COLTS report. Neither the orange nor the red lens is suitable for driving. The College of Optometrists and NHTSA both advise against tinted lenses after dark on the basis that any tint reduces the total light reaching the eye at night, and PROSPEK follows that guidance rather than positioning either lens as a driving product.What the ANSI Z80.3 pass covers, and what it does not
All samples in the clear lens group of report O-SPG111015 passed ANSI Z80.3 for transmittance and chromaticity, in filter category 0, the cosmetic-lens category. That is a real, third-party-measured result: the color and the amount of visible light passing through the lens fall within the standard’s limits for a cosmetic lens. It is not a test of reading power. ANSI Z80.3 governs light transmittance and color, not the accuracy of a lens’s magnification, so PROSPEK does not describe its reading strengths as tested to that standard.What the spectral numbers don’t tell you
A wavelength-specific number is only meaningful next to the band it was measured over; a bare “blocks X% of blue light” claim, from any brand, is close to meaningless without that band attached. As one internal comparison point: a Spektrum-family clear lens under the ZENOX line filters an average of about 52% across the blue band while passing 100% of UV, versus PROSPEK’s own clear lens at 63.0% specifically at 420 nm and 33.1% at 450 nm. The two products are not interchangeable and the numbers were not measured the same way, which is exactly why band and wavelength have to be stated every time. Filtering more of the blue band is also not the same claim as a symptom outcome. A 2017 PLOS ONE study found commercially available blue-light-filtering lenses reduced calculated blue-light hazard by roughly 10-24%, but a November 2025 Frontiers in Neurology meta-analysis of three randomized crossover trials (n=49, actigraphy-measured) found sleep onset, total sleep time, sleep efficiency and wake-after-sleep-onset were all non-significant, and a January 2026 Therapeutic Advances in Ophthalmology review found minimal or no significant impact on contrast sensitivity, color discrimination or task performance. The optical filtering above is what PROSPEK’s lenses are independently measured to do; the evidence for downstream symptom benefit is limited and contested.Where these numbers come from
