What a real prescription specifies that a reading strength does not

An eyeglass prescription lists numbers a non-prescription reader never carries: sphere (the base correction for near- or farsightedness), cylinder and axis (correction for astigmatism, where an eye focuses unevenly across its curvature), add power for presbyopia, and pupillary distance so each lens centers correctly on the wearer’s eyes.
